HTC has been targeting all the market segments to increase the volume of sales. Earlier they launched the premium smartphone HTC One M8 which was appreciated by everyone. Then they launched the mid-range smartphone Desire 816 and also launched the low cost variant of the HTC One called the HTC One E8. The Desire 616 sits below the Desire 816 and features an impressive hardware in an attractive form factor. It runs an octa core processor and has got a 5 inch semi HD display. The price is also justified for the hardware you get. We take a look at some other devices that would go against the Desire 616.
We have seen this device go against devices from various price bands. If you are looking for a brand name along with a powerful yet value for money device, this is the one to pick. It offers decent built quality and lot of customisation options along with a good hardware. It runs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with a quad core processor running at a maximum clock speed of 1.2 GHz. It has got Adreno 305 GPU and comes with 1 GB of RAM.

The Moto G comes with a 4.5 inch display which has a 720p resolution. Due to the small size, the display looks quite crisp and the as it is an IPS display, the display is bright and well saturated. It comes with a 5 megapixel camera which is a bit of compromise and won’t yield good results. The device is available in 8 and 16 GB storage options. There is no option to add external storage so we would recommend picking the 16 GB variant only.
If you are looking for an octa core device only, Panasonic has something to offer. It comes at a similar price tag as the HTC Desire 616 but offers some extra features over it. It is slimmer than the Desire 616 but just by 0.3 mm. the display on the Panasonic P81 is bigger than the Desire 616. It comes with a 5.5 inch semi HD IPS LCD display which would be loved by people who watch a lot of videos on their mobile phones.
It comes with a Mediatek chipset and runs an octa core processor clocked at 1.7 GHz. It comes with 1 GB of RAM just like the Desire 616. It gets a 13 megapixel camera which gives it an edge over the HTC. The secondary camera has a 2 megapixel sensor. The device runs a relatively older version of android at Jelly Bean 4.2.2 but comes with many software additions. It features gesture inputs to simplify many operations on the device.
Gionee Elife E7 mini
A few months back, Gionee introduced two new devices. The Elife E7 and its Mini version. The Elife E7 mini runs an octa core processor like the device in question here and comes with a 4.7 inch 720p display. The dimensions of this device make it quite easy to handle and is quite slim at just 8.6 mm. The display quality is quite good and replicates colours very well. It runs hardware similar to the previous device in the list and has an octa core processor running at 1.7 GHz.
It has got 1 GB of RAM and comes with 16 GB of internal storage. There is no option to add external storage via micro SD card so you would have to live with the inbuilt storage only. It comes with a 13 megapixel camera which can be turned around and used as a secondary camera as well. The device runs an older version of android with their customised Amigo OS. While we are okay with older version, their custom operating system is a let-down.
Alcatel Onetouch Idol X+
While the HTC Desire 616 and most of the devices in this list come with a semi HD display, the Onetouch Idol X+ offers a 5 inch full HD display. The IPS LCD display is impressive and the colours displayed are very well saturated. This one comes with a Mediatek chipset as well and the octa core processor runs at a clock speed of 2 GHz. It has got 2 GB of RAM so it is clear that the hardware on this device is better than most of the alternatives on this list.
It is offered in two different storage variants. You can get it with 16 or 32 GB storage but there is no micro SD card slot. It offers a 13.1 megapixel primary camera and a secondary camera of 2 megapixel resolution. You get all the connectivity options you would need for now though it lacks support for 4G networks and NFC.
This device was recently launched in our country and caused a lot of stir in the market. It comes with a 5 inch display that has a full HD resolution. Rest of the device hardware is quite impressive. It runs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset which is the same as you would find on a Google Nexus 5. Some other chipsets came out after this one but they haven’t been a major update over this. It runs the Adreno 330 GPU and has got 2 GB of RAM. While in the Chinese market, this device is offered with 16 GB and 64 GB of storage, here you can go for just the 16 GB variant.
It offers an impressive 13 megapixel camera and a 2 megapixel camera as a secondary shooter. It runs android 4.3 Jelly Bean which can be updated to KitKat easily. The software interface is the popular MIUI ROM. It offers a wide range of customisation options for the user and looks quite impressive. It gives the user a lot of features over the stock android and doesn’t bug down the device like other custom firmware. The built quality of this device is impressive and at this price point, any other device finds it hard to match the value it offers.
