Xiaomi Mi4: Smartphone that toppled Apple in China
China became the second largest country where iPhones were being shipped earlier this year. The number one is of course the US. It was a big success for Apple as China already has many popular local bands. Although during the second quarter Xiaomi once again became the most popular smartphone in China. Xiaomi is also aware of its local rival Huawei which managed to take 15.7 percent of the Chinese phone market. Huawei made 48 percent growth which is by far the largest amount that any local vendor has ever made.
For this quarter, Apple made the third position but it didn’t make them worried as Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are still doing business in China in spite of the fact that they were introduced to China in September last year.
Sam Murray, a UK tech blogger and industry commentator had plenty of good stuff to say about the Mi4:
“I think whenever you fuse Apple’s design philosophy with the flexibility of Android then you’re onto a winner. I was lucky enough to get hands on demo with this phone when it launched and I was very impressed. It’s a shame that it’s very Chinese focused in terms of UI, Mi Market and some of the settings remaining in Chinese as I think it could do very well in Europe. Hopefully Xiaomi enter the market soon.”
Apple already suspects the revival of Apple phones in the Chinese market in the coming years after the launch of iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. Samsung should be worried though as it is still on the fourth position despite launching Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge flagship in April.
Xiaomi has very cleverly adopted its rival’s tactics which everybody loved. This gorgeous smartphone has unbelievable power and outstanding software. The shocking thing is you can buy it for just £250. It resembles an iPhone in design and build quality. It has a five inch screen but it feels quiet thinner and smaller. Currently Mi4 has only the 3G version and it is still the top most sold phones of 2014. Mi4 comes with its own apps as Xiaomi wants us to use its own services and not Google’s. This is because the company sells its hardware and earns a huge amount of money from digital purchases.
Mi4 comes with a quad-core 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 with 3GB RAM which makes it a quiet powerful and fast mobile phone. It is perfect for multitasking and playing games smoothly. It has a 13 Megapixel camera which takes outstanding photographs during the daylight. The camera comes with a lot of features like HDR, burst shooting and Panorama.
Mi4 has a huge battery of 3,080mAh which lets you use the phone for over a day without charging it. In short, this phone has a design like iPhone but it runs on Android. If you have no problem in importing and customizing the phone, then Mi4 is definitely a great phone in such affordable price.
