In the past couple of years, several smartphone makers have launched their sub-brands to stay ahead in the competition. Talking about the domestic vendors in India first, Lava launched XOLO brand, then Micromax came up with its new subsidiary called YU in December 2014. The Chinese vendor Huawei also launched its Honor brand to compete against the home-grown vendors in India. Now Lava-backed XOLO has also introduced its own new subsidiary called Black, and recently released its first phone that goes by the same name.
As for the competition, the XOLO Black has several devices to go against in the country. Huawei’s Honor 6 Plus falls a bit more into the premium segment, but still the Black manages to compete with it. So, if you are planning to buy any of these phones, let’s compare their specs.
XOLO Black vs Huawei Honor 6 Plus: battle of the finest Android smartphones
The recently launched XOLO Black offers a premium metallic design that measures just 7.7mm around the waist. The phone has protection of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 at both the front and rear end. To make the phone’s rear prone against the smudges and stains, XOLO has also coated its rear panel with an oleophobic coating. In addition to offering a premium body, the Black also offers a futuristic looking power button with a breathing notification light around it. The Honor 6 Plus on the other hand rocks a metallic frame around the edges and is mostly made of plastic and glass. It measures a bit slimmer 7.5mm around the waist than the Black and weighs slightly higher 165 grams.
Display and OS
As for the display, both the XOLO Black and Huawei Honor 6 Plus offer large 5.5-inch displays with full HD resolution, resulting into a pixel density of 401 ppi. On the software front, the XOLO Black runs the latest Android Lollipop out of the box, while the Honor 6 Plus was released running Android 4.4 KitKat.
Talking about the performance, the Honor 6 Plus utilises a HiSilicon Kirin 925 processor that has quad clusters running at 1.8GHz and four clusters clocked at 1.3GHz, aided by a meaty 3GB of RAM and a Mali T628 MP4 GPU. The XOLO Black on the other hand offers better performance n the paper as it utilises the 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor clocked at 1.5GHz, coupled with 2GB of RAM and an Adreno 405 GPU. The XOLO Black offers 16GB of internal memory, while the Honor 6 Plus comes with higher 32GB of flash storage.
As for the camera, the XOLO Black offers a 13MP autofocus rear shooter with an LED flash, and a 2MP front snapper. The Honor 6 Plus on the other hand has both the front and rear cameras with 8MP sensors, but has a dual LED flash for better imaging in low light conditions alongside the primary snapper.
Connectivity and Battery
The XOLO Black offers you choices of managing personal and professional contacts with its dual-SIM support, while the Honor 6 Plus only comes with one SIM slot. Both support India’s 4G LTE bands, and come with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, A-GPS, and micro-USB as the regular set of connectivity options. The Honor 6 Plus is backed by a large 3,600mAh battery, while the Black comes with a smaller 3,200mAh unit.
The XOLO Black is an excellent mid-range smartphone priced at Rs 12,999. It comes with a large display, supports India’s LTE bands, an octa-core processor, and decent primary camera features. The Honor 6 Plus offers an impressive front camera for selfies, a premium design, a larger battery than the Black, and a meaty 3GB of RAM.
